Trailer for Roland Emmerich's 'Anonymous'

"Words... will prevail with listeners." Columbia has quietly unveiled a second full-length trailer for Roland Emmerich's Anonymous, or rather it just hit the web via YouTube and can be seen below. Similar to the teaser trailer for this, it features Radiohead music again, but I love it in this trailer, I think it works well despite this being Emmerich. Rhys Ifans stars as Edward de Vere, and is joined by David Thewlis, Joely Richardson, Vanessa Redgrave, Rafe Spall and Robert Emms. This thriller about William Shakespeare looks sharp and intense and—damnit—just entertaining, which we know Emmerich can deliver. I want to see this!

Set in the political snake-pit of Elizabethan England, Anonymous speculates on an issue that has intrigued academics and brilliant minds ranging from Mark Twain to Sigmund Freud, namely: who was the author of the plays credited to William Shakespeare? Anonymous poses one possible answer, focusing on a time when cloak-and-dagger political intrigue, illicit romances in the Royal Court and schemes of greedy nobles hungry for power were exposed in the most unlikely of places: the London stage. Directed by Emmerich and written by John Orloff (A Mighty Heart, Legend of the Guardians). Anonymous hits theaters on September 30th.
