While New Yorkers get ready to embrace a new generation of boxy taxis like the Ford Transit Connect and the Nissan NV200, city dwellers in Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand, were introduced to a different and far more appealing form of the yellow cab: a Porsche Boxster sports car.
If you're thinking marketing ploy, you may pat yourself in the back as the Porsche taxi stunt was part of a viral campaign to advertise Samsung's new Galaxy S II smartphone.
Apparently, the South Korean company wanted to demonstrate that unlike the entry-level Porsche that costs 6,000,000 THB (about US$202,000 or €140,000) in Thailand, its latest smartphone is affordable to a far more wider audience in the country. This isn't the first time we've seen a company using a sports car as a taxi to create a viral video, as Norwegian cell phone operator Netcom had done something similar in the past with a Mitsubishi EVO 9 (see here).
