Ben Stiller's Red Hour Adapting 'Quantum Hoops' Doc into a Comedy

Quantum Hoops
After his production company made the dark, but delightful coming-of-age comedy Submarine, my respect for Ben Stiller, at least as a producer, went up a couple notches. Now I'm at least interested in yet another venture from Red Hour as Stiller and Stuart Cornfield are working with Disney to develop a comedy based on the 2007 documentary Quantum Hoops. The film follows the 2006 Caltech basketball team which was plagued by 21 seasons and 245 conference games without a single win. In order to stop their losing streak they hired an exiled NCAA coach to make a real effort to get the team just one victory on the court.
Hopefully the movie doesn't just take the easy route and turn the group of geniuses, future political leaders and champions of industry without much athleticism and turn them into caricatured versions of nerds from the 80's. Fortunately, it sounds like much respect will be paid to the sport and the source material as Deadline says this new comedy will have a script coming from Stan Chervin, the original writer who adapted Moneyball before Steve Zaillian and Aaron Sorkin came in to rewrite the script. As of now there's no word on who will direct the feature, but we'll keep you updated as more information becomes available.
