Milla Jovovich & Paul W.S. Anderson Back for Another 'Resident Evil'

Paul W.S. Anderson and Milla Jovovich
Back in September, almost immediately after the release of Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D, franchise star Milla Jovovich seemed confident that she and her husband and the film's director Paul W.S. Anderson would be back for a fifth sequel in the franchise. Since then we haven't heard any official development, but now Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that Jovovich and Anderson will be returning for the sequel title Resident Evil: Retribution. Anderson will be directing the film from his own screenplay this time around too, and while story details are being kept under wraps, we do have word on some characters involved. Read on!
As far as the story goes, it will apparently take Alice (Milla Jovovich) from Toronto, Canada to Tokyo, Japan. In addition Jill Valentine will be returning to the franchise, and despite a tweet from actress Sienna Guillory confirming her return, Bloody Disgusting apparently says the role will be recast. Joining the two ladies will be Barry Burton, a member of S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactics And Rescue Service) and Leon Scott Kennedy, a U.S. Government agent, and previously an officer for the Raccoon City Police Department.
Interestingly enough, when Jovovich talked about the sequel last September, she said: "We've been talking to a lot of fans on Twitter and stuff, so it's probably going to be one of the first movies where we really talk to fans to see what they want, and what characters they want to see. It's going to be a more interactive process." It's not clear if that process will result in anything substantial on screen, but suggestions from fans can't be any worse than what Anderson has already delivered in the franchise. Here's hoping the film at least stays away from 3D this time around, which was used in such silly ways in the last installment. Otherwise, I'm not really looking forward to the fourth film, but it will be hitting theaters on September 14th, 2012.
