We're not too sure what exactly the plans are for the cast, but if this is anything like the version in the works a few years ago, it's most of the same. The first quote comes from We Got This Covered and is just a quick production update from Rodriguez confirming their current situation on both Sin City 2 and Machete 2:
"Sin City 2 is going good, we're just finishing the script for that, we already got the money. We have everything we need so we can just start shooting as soon as we get the pages. And it's the same thing for Machete 2. We've already got the budget, just waiting for the script. As soon as we're finished writing we get to start the shoot."Sounds good on both accounts. I'm glad to hear Sin City is working its way along, finally hopefully shooting this year, but of course I won't believe it until I see it. The other update is from The Playlist, who also got quotes from Rodriguez, this time focusing on his new production company Quick Draw and how they work on their projects. This one is a bit more revealing: "Our company is the other way around. We've got the financing, we're just waiting for the script. So the focus is where it should be. You're not worrying about the money, you're just making sure the script's where it should be. So whichever one has the script ready to go first. Sin City has so many effects, conceivably you could shoot Machete 2 after and it could still come out before Sin City 2. So how the distribution goes, I'm not sure, but they might just end up shooting around the same time." If all goes as planned, it sounds like that may be what they'll do sometime later this year.
Given that Sin City 2 has been promising to shoot for years, I'm still waiting to actually see it happen first. That said, it sounds like this new Quick Draw Productions is exactly what Rodriguez needed to launch to get his next few movies in line, and it sounds like that includes Frank Miller's Sin City 2, another Machete, and the newly teased adaptation of Frank Frazetta's Fire and Ice, and maybe one day that Nerverackers sci-fi movie. In the meantime, we'll have to wait to see how Quick Draw continues to develop and if Spy Kids: All the Time in the World in 4D, featuring Aroma-scope, is a big hit for Dimension Films or not. Sound good?
